SUMMARY REMARKS & TESTBEDS
With the help of the Internet of Things (IoT), a major digital transformation in industry has been undergoing across the world. However, transforming a brownfield factory, with its existing legacy assets, machines and facilities, to a greenfield equivalent is a challenging task, and the industrial assets are unduly capital intensive till their lifespan is due and hence replacement is not an option. Therefore, WiBro aims to assess the feasibility and estimate the costs of connecting existing machines in a brownfield factory floor that produces magnets1to the internet for the purpose of data processing on edge or cloud infrastructure.
The experiment will take place at the Kolektor Magnetics factory and use plug-and-play nodes from the LOG-a-TEC testbed and will pursue two objectives: 1) efficiently retrofit WiFi capability into legacy assets/machinery and 2) estimate the capital and operational costs of such a solution. To reach the proposed objectives, we will, in parallel do the technical experiment and effort/cost assessment of effort and materials needed for deploying such a connectivity solution. The innovation of WiBro lies in the use of Zero-touch provisioning, SysOps and DevOps practices and technology in wireless network deployment and operation.
