Insights from the Hands-on Tutorial on Fed4FIRE+ Testbeds and Openwifi at EuCNC & 6G Summit 2021

On 8 June 2021, Fed4FIRE+ hosted a tutorial on Fed4FIRE+ testbeds in the context of the European Conference on Networks and Communications (EuCNC) & 6G Summit, the annual event which brings together top-notch academia and businesses to discuss cutting-edge technologies in the telecommunications domain.

The tutorial aimed at providing a hands-on demonstration of Fed4FIRE+ resources and showing how to run experiments on wired networking/SDN/NFV, wireless, IoT, and 5G in a simple, cost-effective, and remote way.

After an introduction to the Fed4FIRE+ project, the Technical Coordinator Brecht Vermeulen presented the federated testbeds currently available as well as the collaborations with US GENI and US Cloudlab. He then led a trial to Fed4FIRE+ on the Virtual Wall testbed, introducing the main features of jFed tool and the new Fed4FIRE+ Testbed Portal.

The tutorial continued with imec’s researchers Xianjun Jiao and Wei Liu who zoomed in on Openwifi, an open-source IEEE802.11/Wi-Fi baseband chip developed in the Horizon 2020 Orca project. Wei Liu demonstrated live the different steps needed to use the Openwifi on the w-iLab.t testbed.

Presentations are available in the Fed4FIRE+ Publications & Talks page and here below:

The tutorial video recordings will be soon available on the EuCNC & 6G Summit 2021 website.
