This 2nd Open Call only targeted experiments originating from SMEs. While previous Fed4FIRE+ Open Calls worked in a 1-stage scenario, the purpose of this 2nd Fed4FIRE+ Open Call was to work with a staged proposal submission process:

  1. Stage 1: the SME experimenter submitted a 3-page proposal after consultation with the required testbeds. These proposals were reviewed by external reviewers and a selection of 10 proposals was made. The selected experiments will receive a budget of max 10,000 Euro (SME experimenter) and of max 2,500 euro (for the testbed) to prepare for the next stage.
  2. Stage 2: proposals selected after Stage 1 are elaborated in more detail and are submitted for review together with the testbeds to be used. Only proposals selected in Stage 1 are admitted. External reviewers will make a selection of up to six experiments to be funded. The selected experiments will receive a budget of up to 50,000 euro (SME experimenter) and max 5,000 euro (for the testbed) to execute the experiment.

“We would like to thank all the SMEs who entered a proposal. The quality of responses is phenomenal and showcases tremendous innovative thinking from all the SMEs”, stated Peter Van Daele – Fed4FIRE+ Administrative Project Coordinator (imec).

The experiments to be submitted in the 2nd stage will be proposals for more extensive innovative experiments which are built upon the proposals and experiments run after selections of proposers in the 1 stage.
