SUMMARY REMARKS & TESTBEDS
The global IoT market is constantly growing, with its core technologies continuously evolving to satisfy more demanding needs of end-users across a wide range of domains. The increasing adoption rate of IoT solutions results in complex IoT deployments of extreme-scale that are hard to manage, even for tech giants. In this context, the ability to continuously validate the end-to-end performance of IoT deployments has driven the development of performance testing tools for the specific needs of enterprise IoT deployments.
Through the EXPAND experiment, we plan to deploy a previously developed load testing framework customized to the load generation profiles of our own products, on a distributed realistic setup of IoT nodes to emulate our entire IoT platform with production level characteristics. The City of Things testbed has been selected as the ideal setup for emulating typical IoT workloads of smart home devices developed by our company. The EXPAND experiment will be crucial for our company, towards evaluating the performance, scalability and reliability of our entire IoT management platform, understanding its capacity limitations and help in better planning our infrastructure expansion in the long term.
