Fed4FIRE+ was at the FOSDEM 2020 edition presenting one of its success stories of the Open Call participant with the project SDR4IoT conducted by Alexis Duque from Rtone.
FOSDEM is one of the top developer events on the planet, gathering more than 8000 open source community members from industry and academia since 2000. It is a free and non-commercial event organized by the community for the community. The goal is to provide free and open-source software developers and communities a place to meet to get in touch with other developers and projects and be informed about the latest developments in the free software and the open-source world.
Most of the talks are given in the developer rooms (devrooms) set up with network/internet connectivity and video recording where teams can meet and showcase their projects. Devrooms are a place for teams to discuss, hack and publicly present the latest directions, lightning talks, news and discussions.
Alexis Duque from Rtone, an SME that participated to the FED4Fire+ Open Call, presented in the Free Software Radio devroom the Fed4FIRE+ testbeds federation, the SME Open Call, the w-iLab.t testbed, as well as the preliminary results of their experiment performed in the w-iLab.2 testbed in Ghent.
“Fed4FIRE+ allows us to remotely access a wide range of high-end hardware used for research like cognitive radio nodes and GPU. Thanks to the w-iLab.t testbeds, we were able to perform reproducible research experiments, in a controlled environment, which would not be possible in our offices in Lyon” said Alexis Duque.
The project presented aims to collect raw radio frequency (RF) signals of widely used radio protocols for the Internet of Things (IoT) devices in the 2.4GHz ISM bandwidth, such as Bluetooth Low Energy using software-defined radio (SDR). This allowed collecting a large, reliable and reproducible dataset of RF fingerprint. This dataset will be further used to develop deep learning algorithms for IoT device fingerprinting and localization. The application domain of this technology is the authentication of autonomous vehicles or robots in a building according to their localization, without any over-the-air key exchange algorithm.
